ADVANCED ITALIAN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE PLUPERFECT TENSE The workbook focuses on 25 high-frequency regular and irregular verbs Italian verbs in the pluperfect tense (trapassato prossimo). There are three differentiated ‘quick conjugation’ challenges, each with 50 conjugation questions, so 150 conjugations in total. My students really enjoy learning and practicing their conjugation skills with these kinds of workbooks, and I’ve created a series of them that they can access whenever they feel they need to do a little extra work on their conjugation. There’s also a 6-page answer key workbook - for me, answer keys are an integral element of the learning process with this kind of activity - they certainly help students develop more independence in their learning (and they do enjoy correcting their own and particularly each others’ work!), and they give students further opportunity to engage with the learning focus. Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written Italian is accurate, and that their understanding of Italian across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust. GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN A LEVEL ITALIAN CONDITIONAL TENSE 25 ITALIAN VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for KS4 Italian students who are moving on to more complex texts, and for***KS5 Italian A Level Italian*** students as revision. The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in their first language, and the language they are learning, and those with English as a first language frequently look for a word that is the equivalent of would, until they familiarise themselves with the fact that the notion of conditional is indicated in the verb ending. I see this a lot with the future tense too, and tend to introduce both tenses quite closely together. It’s also easy to confuse the future tense endings with the conditional tense endings, and targeted practice helps to address that really well. GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN 500 high-frequency Italian verbs, listed alphabetically both Italian-English and English-Italian - a great learning support resource for KS4 Italian moving into A Level Italian students, and useful also for KS3 Italian students, providing a language road map with learning goals, outlining the verbs they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. There are 48 pages in the book, and all 500 verbs are listed alphabetically Italian-English and English-Italian. There’s also a first person conjugation reference in the present, perfect and imperfect tense, which is really useful for checking which verbs take essere in the perfect tense, and for the past participle. As students become more competent in conjugation, the first person reference enables them to predict accurately other forms of the verbs. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out an Italian or English verb, with teams giving the corresponding Italian or English verb - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential Italian vocabulary. PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH FRUITS & VEGETABLES BINGO GAMES 200 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 80 CALLING CARDS TWO SETS OF BINGO GAMES @ £1.80 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Bingo games are perfect for language learning, and they’re really easy to differentiate. All my students, regardless of age, find playing the games a great way of consolidating their Spanish vocabulary, and developing their Spanish language skills in general - bingo is absolutely perfect for speaking, listening, reading, writing and spelling. This bundle comprises two sets of 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards Spanish and English so 200 bingo grids and 80 calling cards in total. I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocabulary - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’, and translate what they hear really quickly. It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo caller too, meaning they can play entirely independently of the teacher. There are twelve Spanish fruits in masculine, feminine, singular & plural: the green apple the lemon the oranges the peach the raspberries the pineapple the kiwi the pear the bananas the green grapes the strawberry the watermelon and twelve Spanish vegetables in masculine, feminine, singular & plural: the mushrooms the cauliflower thee carrots the lettuce the cucumber the tomato the cabbage the potatoes the garlic the broccoli the peas the onions I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocabulary consolidation and recall, and listening skills. There are 80 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game. The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 80 Spanish word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH FRUITS BINGO GAMES 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 40 CALLING CARDS Bingo games are perfect for language learning, and they’re really easy to differentiate. All my students, regardless of age, find playing the games a great way of consolidating their Spanish vocabulary, and developing their Spanish language skills in general - bingo is absolutely perfect for speaking, listening, reading, writing and spelling. This set includes 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards - 20 in Spanish, and 20 in English - I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocabulary - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’, and translate what they hear really quickly. It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo caller too, meaning they can play entirely independently of the teacher. There are twelve Spanish fruits in masculine, feminine, singular & plural in this set: the green apple the lemon the oranges the peach the raspberries the pineapple the kiwi the pear the bananas the green grapes the strawberry the watermelon I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocabulary consolidation and recall, and listening skills. There are 40 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game. The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 40 Spanish word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). There are 20 mixed word and picture grids are ideal for additional challenge and differentiation. The adverbs address a range of categories, for example, temporal / time adverbs, place / location adverbs, frequency adverbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a collection of 25 high-frequency Italian adverbs that students will meet in the advanced beginner Italian to intermediate Italian stages of Italian learning programmes, and useful for students beginning advanced Italian as a vocabulary audit. It’s an important step in language learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Italian vocabulary bank, are able to recognize Italian adverbs, and are confident with the meaning of those words in their first / home language, so that they can produce more detailed and descriptive language and more complex sentences and texts as soon and as accurately as possible. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning the adverbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing Italian vocabulary, and it is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency Italian adverbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two alphabetical lists - one Italian-English, and one English-Italian, as I’ve found that most language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I use for Italian vocabulary display or Italian grammar display, and plain. My students have always found these a really useful learning activity. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of English grammar too. There are 15 questions with 15 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt. The questions in this freebie are aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate English students, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. There’s a reference sheet, with all the questions and answers written out in full for additional learning support. I always laminate my language learning cards, even though the prep is a bit time-consuming - they’re far sturdier and easier to use, and remain in excellent condition for years! This French-speaking countries word searches freebie comprises two differentiated word searches with answer keys, featuring a range of countries where French is an official language. I have a set of 10 differentiated word searches with country, capital city and flag reference list in my store too - the full set description is as follows: Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches with answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 40 countries / territories where French is an official language. The word searches help students***develop their knowledge and awareness of the Francophone world***, and just how widely it is spoken around the globe. I’ve used the definite article for the countries, so that students can see which countries are masculine, and which feminine, which in turn helps consolidate knowledge of gender in French. In Grids 1-4, students search for a particular country. In Grids 5 & 6, they search for a range of capital cities. Grid 7 gives 16 capital cities as prompts, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid. Similarly, in Grid 8, there are 16 countries given, and students search for the corresponding capital cities in the grid. Grids 9 & 10 show a selection of national flags, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid, and also write the country name in the prompt box next to the individual flag. There is a single grid per page, A4 (8.5 x 11) portrait format. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it.
